Although not an issue in online casinos, there are a variety of rules when dice are concerned. Most offline casinos have strict policies as to how the dice can be rolled, what you can do before rolling them and how to avoid performing a bad roll. Handling Dice in Craps
When a player is in the position of being the shooter, they must be careful how they handle the dice before they roll. First, no player may touch the dice with more than one hand. If you must switch the dice to another hand, you must first place them on the table with the hand currently holding them and then pick them up with the hand that you wish them to be in. This is to prevent you from switching the dice with different, altered dice that can make the game unfair. For the same reason, the dice are never allowed to be taken past the edge of the table.
You will often be permitted to set the dice in a certain fashion in your hand before rolling. This might include making sure that sixes are facing up before rolling them. You are even allowed to stack the dice on top of one another or set them apart to be picked up between different fingers. Whatever your ritual, you are permitted to perform it provided that you do not switch hands or delay the game for too long. Be aware, however, that some offline casinos will not allow this process at all.
Rolling the Dice in Craps
When you throw the dice, there are also rules that determine whether or not the roll was a fair and legal one. Most casinos require each roll of the dice to hit the wall on the other side of the table. If this does not occur, some casinos will allow the roll to be counted as long as it makes it halfway across the table. Still, many casinos will require that the roll strikes the wall to prevent shooters from manipulating the roll by keeping it as close as possible. You may not slide the dice but they must fully leave your hand and literally roll.
The dice must land on the playing table. Casinos differ in whether or not they will allow dice to inadvertently strike the dealer or another player before hitting the table. If the dealer or player had an opportunity to manipulate the dice, the roll will not count. To avoid unfair calls or confusion, most casinos will not count rolls that hit another player or the dealer.
In addition, the dice cannot land on any other surface but the table and still be counted. This includes the chip containing portion of the table, the floor and the dealer cup. If a die lands on its side while resting against another object, such as the wall, the side that would be on the top if the object were to be taken away is the side that is counted.
